Backlog Photos Of Foods I Ate.

When my husband cooks for me, he almost always makes me pasta. This is a simple spaghetti with marinara (we buy Gina Rispoli, Newman's, or Mezzetta) and Trader Joe's meatless meatballs. Very hearty and filling.

Homemade sandwich on whole grain with Tofurky italian deli, Chao cheese, avocado, red onion, lettuce, tomato and Vegenaise!

Awesome sandwich.

Had my sandwich with a cup of Annie's tomato soup. This is so good if you don't have time to make your own soup.

Last Thursday was my birthday and I made my own cake! Chocolate with penuche frosting. I got the frosting recipe from a vintage Betty Crocker cookbook. It's a brown sugar frosting that is sooooo good.

My dad bought me a birthday pizza from Domino's. Thanks Dad!

For my birthday weekend, my husband and I spent time in Santa Barbara. We ate at the following restaurants:

British fish n chip shop. The chips are so good.

While my husband ate fish n chips, I had chips n baked beans.

At The Natural Cafe there are some good vegan options.

Like this sandwich. It's called the "Local's Favorite". Ask for no mayo and get a side of tahini sauce. Such a good little spot to grab lunch.

On our last night we hit up Galanga for amazing Thai food.

Spicy Mint Noodles with tofu. Make sure to order without fish sauce and egg.

Delicious veggie red curry. No fish sauce.

My plate. I was so full afterwards. Can't wait to go back to SB!

Eating vegan at Islands.

Basket of fries are a must!

No Blame Veggie Tacos. Order without the cheese. I switched out corn for flour tortillas which was a personal preference. It would have been great with corn tortillas too.

Mai Tai!

More Montreal deliciousness: AUX VIVRES RESTAURANT and other vegan snacks.

When in Montreal, you must stop by Aux Vivres for an all vegan meal.

First up we tried the cornbread with veggie "butter". The cornbread was very tasty and on the savory side.

Soup of the day was a yellow dahl.

BLT Caesar for me which was ok. I'm not used to having a caesar salad without romaine lettuce. It did have some interesting "coconut bacon" which I rather liked.

For dessert, cappucino and blueberry "uncheesecake". Yum!

Snack attack! Forget about name brand potato chips. My fave are the all dressed generic brand (99 cents!) from Jean Coutu.

I was able to find vegan friendly items at IGA, my fave supermarket when in Mtl.

Shopping on St. Denis, I had to check out Cremerie Meu Meu for soy ice cream! My outfit even matched the shopfront.

I was a happy mouse with a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of peanut butter.

Homemade food by our friend Rob. Perfect potatoes.

He even made veggie burgers for me! One of our most memorable meals. Dinner with friends is always special.

Paragon restaurant in St. Leonard. Vegetarian submarine sandwich, no cheese no sauce. It has grilled onions, mushrooms and bell peppers. So tasty!

Homemade Tagine and LOLA ROSA VEGETARIAN BISTRO in Montreal.

This was my dinner tonight. I was inspired by a beautiful tagine I had at LOLA ROSA vegetarian restaurant in Montreal, Canada where I had my holiday the past ten days. I was back at work today and couldn't stop thinking of that tagine. So I came home and made this. It has potatoes, chickpeas, carrots, onions, raisins, apricots, olives and tomato. I served it with whole wheat couscous and sliced almonds.

Lola Rosa is a beautiful little bistro in the Plateau district in Montreal on Avenue du Parc.

I liked the artwork in this place. ;)

Quesadilla plate which my husband had. It had a sweet potato filling and he said it was delicious. It could be made vegan also.

Veggie burger made out of lentils and chia seeds. Looked amazing.

I had the tagine which was so delicious! It was served with what tasted like mint chutney. So good.

For dessert, chocolate banana tarte. Yumm.

The tables had drawers which housed random notes from strangers.

I left my own note.

Restaurant Food Review: Waterloo & City Gastropub.

Went to a local british style gastropub in Culver City for Happy Hour on Friday night with the office. Two of us are vegan, so we wondered how well they would turn out some vegan plates. Luckily there are items marked "v" on the menu to denote vegetarian/vegetarian friendly options. So our only thing was to find out whether they could be made vegan. On the happy hour menu there were three items that were able to be made vegan.

The chef added a beautiful array of veggies to their flatbread pizza and omitted the cheese. This was wonderful.

The other two items were the french fries, naturally and the arugula salad with crispy shallots and smoked almonds. We made sure the salad was ordered without the cheese. The salad was phenomenal and as you can tell by yesterday's mother's day post, I tried to re-create it at home. I'm happy that W&C were able to accommodate the vegans! I would love to go back again to enjoy some cocktails and some nosh to nibble on.

Gaby's Mediterranean Cafe

A week or two ago, I went to Gaby's Mediterranean in West L.A. with my friend (who took the photo above) to enjoy a meze dinner. I have been going to Gaby's for many years and the food usually never disappoints. We got a medley of dishes: the Vegetarian's Choice (plate on the left) which includes hummus, baba ganouj, tabbouleh, grape leaves and falafel. Perfect to share for two. We also go the moussaka (dish in front) which is a beautiful stew of tender eggplant, chickpeas, tomatoes and onions in a tomato sauce. And to make it all complete we ordered the fatayer (spinach pies which you can see on the plate right in front of my chest, haha). Everything was super delicious. We even smoked a bit of apple shisha after the meal. It was very pleasant but I must say that in all my years of dining at Gaby's, they have never seemed to get the customer service on target. Our waitress disappeared for a long time and we had to wait for water and bread re-fills which we eventually got from a bus person. Hopefully that aspect (which is rather important in the restaurant business) gets taken care of sooner rather than later. There are a couple of other Mediterranean restaurants in the area that I'd like to try. Mezza in Culver City and Sofra Kabob down the street from Gaby's.

Breakfast Burrito and Thai Take-away.

Breakfast in bed. Tofu, tomato and potato scramble in a flour tortilla with vegan mayo/ketchup sauce. Yum!

Dinner provided by 'The Vegan Joint' in West L.A. We started out with crispy spring rolls that were perfectly fried and stuffed with vegetables.

The "mushroom soup" which was coconut milk based. You can't tell in this poor photo but it also has tofu, bamboo shoots, lemongrass, lime leaves and celery as well as mushrooms. My husband was craving this and he loved it. It was very good.

Spicy Mint Noodles with tofu aka "Drunken Noodles", aka Pad Kee Mow. Yum. Not very spicy though! For American palettes maybe but in my Thai household, this wasn't a bit spicy. But still, everything was delicious and satisfied our junky Thai food craving.

VeganMoFo: Oh alright...one more post for VeganMoFo!

Since today is the official last day of MoFo, I really should add another post. This weekend has been a weekend of eating out in L.A. and I thouht I'd share with you the yummy food I got to indulge in. Last night we went to a 50th Anniversary Twilight Zone screening at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. It was a really enjoyable event that lasted 5 hours! Luckily we ate dinner before hand at California Vegan on Sunset.

Pad Thai dinner special. It comes with fried rice, salad, spring roll and miso soup (not pictured). Yummy yummy junky Thai food! Even though it's vegan folks, this is not the healthiest stuff around, haha! But it sure hit the spot.

For dessert: mango vanilla soy ice cream which tastes just very similar to the one from Trader Joe's. :)

Today we went to lunch at Bossa Nova Brazilian Restaurant on Sunset.

Xingu beer. Good.

Husband+Beer.

While the menu was very meat-centric, I was able to get this. Sundried tomato and arugula pizza, no cheese. So freaking delicious! If you ever get this, make sure to say no mozzarella, no parmesan!

A slice of deliciousness. I ate the whole pizza, no lie.
